Went here for lunch and had a great cheeseburger. Hats off to the chef for the perfect temp. I also love the staff and the old school vibe in the place. Perfect spot for a great meal.

Solid burger with bacon, creamed spinach and caesar salad. Authentic old school vibe - everything from the bar in front to the red booths in the back and the waitress who made us feel at home. Great gin martini with sidecar holding the extra amount. 3rd generation ownership and it sounds like the 4th generation will stay in the family business. Crowded at 6:45pm on a weeknight. Good vibes. Will return.

Sometimes you wanna go where everybody knows your name" Maureen is the daughter of the original owner, I went with a friend and had frozen aperol spritzer- all I can say is yummmmmmm. Had a potato app with the fixins and shared it with a friend - a liquid lunch required a base for the alcohol. Maureen was quick to share the history, her other bartender, a gorgeous up and coming actor in NY also made us feel welcome. I will be back !!! To enjoy the fabulous libations in a part of real New York history (not many of these left) with the impeccable service. Maureen knew everyone's name and by the end of my visit, mine as well. The bar is original, yummy bar good and price point no greater or less than other NY locales. Want a neighborhood flavor - it still exists here!

Quaint little place with a lot of attitude. We got there early enough to get a table and was greeted by a lady who seemed to have worked there since it opened. She had just the right mixture of attitude and courtesy for that kind of place, which may be a turn off for some but I absolutely loved it. We started with martinis and very much appreciated the sidecars they left at the table. Martinis were great. I had the filet ($63) and my wife had the burger. The food came out very quickly, didn't love that since I wanted to enjoy my evening out of the house. The food was prepared well with the exception of seasoning, there seemed to be none. I get that the meat flavor should speak for itself but I was a little disappointed in the flavor. We were in and out in under an hour. The bar was packed the entire time so get there early if you want a seat there.

Had the 1/2 roasted chicken. Was very happy to wait 10-15 minutes for a fresh, delicious meal. The vegetables were fresh, and the salad was also very fresh and cold. Great to have a meal that's not oversalted; you can always add your own salt. They also had a great California Cabernet by the glass, better than most Italian restaurants. Cozy, nice place with friendly people, great American food. Definitely make it a stop at least once a week.

The food was excellent I must say. Steaks were cooked good! Overall was a good experience. A tad pricey. Careful what u order. Service could have been a little better... but I give it a 3 out of 5 star... on last who waited on us. Sorry dear. Ambiance was a typical Irish type atmosphere. It did get crowded as we finished up dinner. A +

The chase: Excellent old-school cozy neighborhood chop house, with red leather booths and a classic bar that serves artfully mixed classic cocktails. Donohue's is a portal to the past, a comfortable neighborhood joint, what used to be called a red booth steak and chop house. Though I had not been here in over 20 years (has it really been that long?), Donohue's has always been my touchstone for the classic red booth atmosphere and cuisine. "The Daily Grill" chain scratched this itch from time to time, as did Beverly Hill's "Grill in the Alley," but last night I decided to go crosstown and go back to the mothership. Though it is true that one cannot go back home again, one can certainly go back to the same neighborhood. The drinks were exemplars of the archetype. My beautiful dining companion had a gin martini (not a fake vodka version), and I had a Manhattan (made with bourbon, not rye... yeah, I'm a hypocrite); both drinks were beyond excellent, dare I say sublime? These are not heavy pours, they are balanced and not overpowering, allowing your tastebuds to do their work. We eschewed appetizers. I had the London Broil. My companion the hamburger. The hamburger with cheese (American) -- excellent! Ordered medium, each bite was better than the last. Even the bun was great. The london broil: it was London Broil, the poor man's cut, what used to be served as the steak at IHOP (it's true). The mushroom gravy was a bit heavy handed, but you get what you order and it was a good example of the presentation and serving of such a dish. The creamed spinach was excellent and did not rely on bacon bits to do any of the lifting. Service was friendly and appropriately non-intrusive. The bar still had the Christmas lights up in mis February... which I love. I think dark bars need to have Christmas lights up all year. The snowmen in the window... the jury is out. The not so great: The bread was below par, the quality of a pedestrian soft-crusted store-bought baguette. The butter, however, was a good temperature for spreading without being melted. That said, I was hoping for a grilled sourdough. The baked potato was nice and soft on the inside, but so was the skin and I prefer a crunch thicker skin. The menu is pretty thin and prices are high. You can't go home again, but you can go back to Donohue's to get a solid drink, the burger and the creamed spinach. Maybe the salmon. I'll report back.
